The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilors sat on dharna outside the East Delhi Municipal Corporations (EDMC) and confronted the Mayor over an alleged hike of `24,000 per year towards garbage collection imposed on doctors who have their own clinics and demanded a roll back of the decision.

However, East Delhi mayor Shyam Sunder Aggarwal said that the Delhi Government have ordered to levy such user charges in its gazette notification published on January 15, 2018 under the Solid Waste Management Rules-2016.“We are not going to enforce this order and send the copy of the order back to the Delhi Govt. No such charge would be levied for collection of biomedical waste,” he said.Mayor said “Our doctors have rendered immense service to humanity in the Covid-19 pandemic. Many doctors of the corporation were also lost their lives while serving people infected with Covid-19. In such a time, we cannot impose any kind of financial burden on doctors.”
