AAP 'pounces' on BJP-led MCD as it fails Swachchh test

The AAP held the BJP-led Municipal Corporation in Delhi (MCD) responsible for the poor sanitation conditions in the national Capital. While addressing a Press conference at their office on Monday, the AAP leaders termed these corporations as the “most corrupt departments” raising voice over the low rankings of these civic bodies in a survey conducted as part of Swachchh Bharat campaign.

Quoting the recently tabled CAG report, AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha said the MCDs do not have any perspective plan nor they have any system for monitoring sanitation services irrespective of the crores invested into it.

“This is a matter of shame for us. Common man cannot use the toilets. It also said that the MCD has no planning for solid waste management, how to de-silt the drainage and clean the toilets. The CAG report is so damning that on seeing it the office bearers of the MCDs should resign,” he said. With the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) figuring at 16th on the list in the study done by the Ministry of Urban Development the party also made a jibe saying it was because “khaas aadmi”, including the Prime Minister, reside there.

“In November, 2014, the Delhi High Court had said that MCDs of the national Capital are doing the opposite when the Prime Minister had undertaken the Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan in these civic agencies,” said AAP MlA Saurabh Bharadwaj. The BJP is trying to blame the AAP Government for the mess, the party said.

Chadda further said, “The survey was done from 2014-15 and, for most of that time, AAP was not in power. “The report also states that the NDMC, where many influential people stay in lutyens Delhi, including the Prime Minister, ranks 16th. However, when it comes to East, North and South (Delhi), the ranking falls to 398. So, where the ‘khaas aadmi’ stays, the ranking is good, but ranking is bad where the aam aadmi stays,” he added.

Keeping up the tirade, AAP leader Ashutosh said, “BJP has been controlling the MCDs for over nine years now. They are passing the buck on to the State Government and do not want to take the blame,” he said.

Condemning the attack on AAP lawmaker Alka lamba, Ashutosh, who had earlier tweeted that the BJP MlA OP Sharma, should be interrogated by police, said the matter was being politicised.

“I do not accuse him but what is the big deal about questioning him. Instead of police taking any action and doing a full-fledged inquiry, Sharma has threatened that the next time, we will use batons,” Ashutosh accused.
