Delhi Police has arrested Aam Aadmi Party MlA Manoj Kumar's personal assistant Deepak Sharma on charges of extortion on Tuesday night. Sharma was allegedly threatening and extorting money every month from the shopkeepers in east Delhi's Mayur Vihar Phase -III.
On July 9, MlA from Kondli, Manoj Kumar had been arrested by the Delhi Police on the charges of cheating and forging documents but was later released on bail after a four-day remand.
According to police, MlA's PA Sharma has been found to be involved in 17 cases of cheating in the national Capital.
He was arrested on Tuesday night, after the Delhi Police received a PCR call from a ration shop owner alleging that Sharma has been extorting Rs2,000 every month from the shop owners threatening them with cancellation of license in case the money is not paid.
During investigation, police found that he was involved in 17 such cases. "Of 17, seven cases each were lodged at Gazipur and Kalyanpuri Police Stations and three at New Ashok Nagar police station," said a police officer.
Police said the number of cases might be increased as they are getting more complaints of cheating against Sharma. After the arrest, he is being questioned and confronted with the ration shop owners. "The complainants alleged that for the past few months Sharma was extorting Rs2,000 per shop and whoever resisted was threatened on the pretext that he would ensure their shops are sealed," added the officer.
