Trouble is brewing for former Delhi Women and Child Minister and AAP MlA Rakhi Bidlan as her sister-in-law claimed that she has been subjected to domestic violence for years. Priyanka on Sunday approached Delhi Police against her husband complaining of domestic violence but later backtracked after the issue was settled. In her written complaint to Rohini South police station, she accused Rakhi’s brother Vikram Bidlan of assaulting her and spanking her with a belt.
High drama was witnessed on Sunday late night when Priyanka made a PCR call stating that her husband was beating her with a belt. The PCR van took her to the police station where she claimed the violence had been relentless for two months.
She told reporters: “Nobody wants their marriage to fail. I have two children but incidents of physical violence have gone up in the last two months. I filed a complaint because I couldn’t take it anymore.” However, by Monday afternoon she reached a compromise with her husband and decided to withdraw the complaint. “But if this happens again, I will approach court,” she said.
Police did not file an FIR in this connection following a U-turn by Priyanka. “After she filed a complaint, a woman sub-inspector and a constable accompanied her to her residence and counselled her family. We have been told that the woman is withdrawing her complaint,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjeet Singh.
Bidlan, who is an AAP MlA from Mangolpuri, washed her hands off the whole controversy while claiming that she was with the victim. “I have nothing to do with this dispute. I have nothing to do with my two brothers. Whoever is guilty should be punished,” said Bidlan.
The Congress and BJP however, latched on to the issue to attack Bidlan and the Aam Aadmi Party Government. Terming the incident as “shameful”, the Congress said that the matter will be taken up before the Women’s Commission.
“It is shameful such thing has happened in her (Rakhi Bidlan’s) family,” Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee leader Sharmistha Mukherjee said. “It is ironical that the Chief Minister wants to assign Women and Child Welfare to an MlA like Rakhi Bidlan,” said Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay.
