Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday stated that the remarks made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj regarding the 400 “Devi Yojana” buses rolled out on Delhi’s roads on Friday reflect his political desperation and his tendency to mislead the public. Sachdeva questioned Bharadwaj, who accused the BJP of stealing credit, asking why his government failed to put the buses on the roads even after inaugurating them, while the BJP government followed proper legal procedures and made the buses operational.
Sachdeva clarified that when the “Devi Yojana” buses arrived, there were still some technical and documentation formalities that the Delhi government needed to complete with the supplier company. However, in a rush to score political points ahead of elections, Atishi’s government hastily announced the launch and inauguration of these buses under the Mohalla Bus scheme without completing the required procedures but never actually deployed the buses on the roads.
Now, with a shortage of buses in Delhi due to the outgoing Arvind Kejriwal government’s failure to procure buses, the newly formed Rekha Gupta government, acting in public interest, initiated the certification process for the Devi Yojana buses and obtained safety affidavits from the supplier. This has allowed the buses to be deployed on the roads, ensuring that there is minimum shortage in the city’s public transport network.
