In order to develop the city as a tourism hub, the Delhi Government has decided to scrutinise all the existing agreements with private players signed during previous Governments’ regime in the national Capital. The Aam Aadmi Party Government was also exploring new tourism opportunities to attract more tourists so that more funds are generated. “We have decided to scrutinise existing agreements, which were signed with the Governments in the past because the AAP Government wants to make Delhi a tourism hub,” Tourism Minister Jitender Singh Tomar said. Sources, however, said that if any deficiency was found during the scrutiny, the Government might cancel their agreement with it. Tomar said that several steps, including the development of a new water park in Najafgarh, were being to turn the city into a “tourism hub” on par with developed global cities.
According to the department, it was preparing a roadmap in this regard. The Minister said that new facility would also be introduced at tourist sites. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also in favour of making the city a hub for tourism, saying that it would magnify not only the pride of Delhi, but it would also create job opportunities. At present, there are several tourism sites — Red Fort, Akshardham Temple, Birla Mandir, Dilli Haat, Garden of Five Senses, Humayun’s Tomb, India Gate, Iskcon Temple, Jama Masjid, Jantar Mantar and lodi Tomb.
“We are exploring new tourism opportunities to attract more tourists in the Capital. Department is studying several project plans,” the Minister said. The Government has also planned to build a water sports park in Najafgarh area of South-West Delhi. The water sports park is likely to be built at Chawala and Kangal Khedi of Najafgarah area.
