AAP launches teachers’ wing in universities

After contesting Delhi University Students Union polls and with eyes set on the general elections, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched its teachers wing in universities situated in the national Capital.

The AAP’s area of focus is Delhi University (DU) where a large number of teachers are active as the members of various political parties.

It may be recalled that The Pioneer  had reported earlier on 15 December about the AAP’s plans to launch its teachers wing. Delhi AAP convener and Minister of Labour Gopal Rai launched three wings i.e, ‘Delhi Teachers Association’ (DTA), Delhi Research Association (DRA) and Delhi Non-Teaching Staff Association (DNSA) on Monday.

Among the 63 colleges of Delhi University (DU), there are 21 undergraduate colleges that are funded by the AAP ruled Delhi Government.

“The AAP government has worked and is working a lot for the development and up-gradation of the school education, now the time has also come to focus on the development of higher education. The three wings will look deeply into the issues of the teachers, non-teaching staffs and research scholars and will take it to the concerned authority to solve the issues and will work on ground level,” said Gopal Rai.

As per the sources, till 2004, like teachers and students union, DU also had a research association known as Delhi University Research Association (DURA). However, the AAP has decided to revive the closed union this year in which students of Post Graduate (PG), MPhill and PhD are expected to join.
