AAP keeping a watchful eye on 'defectors'

A day ahead of a convention called by party dissidents Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, the Aam Aadmi Party, on Monday, issued a stern warning to party members that its top-decision making panel would determine what action would be taken against those found accepting the rebel camp’s invitation. Senior party leader Sanjay Singh said that AAP’s all-powerful Political Affairs Committee (PAC) and its National Executive (NE) would decide the next move in this regard after the Swaraj Samvad meet, which is likely to take place on Tuesday in Gurgaon.

“Swaraj Samvad is not a party function. The PAC and NE will decide on what action needs to be taken after the meeting,” said Sanjay Singh. The National Council, in its meeting last month, empowered the PAC to take disciplinary action against those giving negative statements about the party to the media. “This is a parallel activity and we are in no way connected to them (Yadav and Bhushan),” he maintained.

Fellow party leader Ashutosh added that the AAP was closely watching the activities of the two leaders, who were expelled from the key decision-making bodies for alleged “anti-party activities”. “We will be watching the outcome of their event. The party’s PAC and National Council will take suitable action,” he said.

Bhushan and Yadav, who are co-founders of the AAP along with party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, have pledged to approach the Supreme Court and the Election Commission against their sacking. The two have already hinted at floating another party, if required, and that the Swaraj Samvad would decide their future course of action. Yadav has been touring the country in order to garner maximum support.
