The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday held a massive protest outside the office of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) at Varunalaya for failing to resolve acute power and water crises the Capital is faced with. Hundreds of workers of the BJP broke earthen pots as a mark of protest against the DJB for not fulfilling their promises on water issues.
All 14 district units of the BJP staged demonstrations and held dharnas to compel the Delhi Government and local legislators to look into power and water woes.
launching an attack on AAP-led Delhi Government, Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said, “The Delhi Government has failed to tackle the water shortage problem in the city and summer action plan of the DJB is not being implemented properly.”
Upadhyay alleged that the Kejriwal Government, which initially promised 50 per cent reduction in power tariff for all, free water, WiFi and corruption-free administration, had withdrawn the power subsidy to consumers in the Capital. “Now the subsidy benefit is restricted to hardly 30 per cent of the consumers,” he said.
“Nobody in the Capital knew who was getting free water because even by the Government’s own figures, in a city of around 2 crore people, hardly 10.5 lakh consumers were being benefited,” he added. Even though there are enough water supplies in Delhi from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, people are facing water shortage problem, he said.
“There is no water supply at Sangam Vihar. We are being harassed by tanker mafia time and again due to deficiency in water supply by the Government,” said a protester.
Talking to The Pioneer, DJB vice chairman Kapil Mishra said: “I will visit Sangam Vihar to check the situation on the water issues.” He added that action will be taken against the tanker mafias. Mishra slammed BJP for making unnecessary chaos outside DJB office and said BJP has not issued a single letter of complaint to his office. “I am waiting for a one letter of complaint from Upadhyay and his team.” DJB officials are working 24x7 to make water available to every people, he added.
