AAP Govt's media gag order chokehold on free speech: BJP

Published on:

Upping their angst against Delhi Government, the Delhi BJP on Tuesday gave a detailed memorandum to lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and urged him to order the withdrawal of anti-media circular eroding the socio-political activists’ freedom of speech and ensure proper compensation to bereaved farmers.

“Delhi BJP has given memorandum on the issues and requested the lieutenant Governor to seek report from the Chief Secretary of Delhi on the issues of anti-media circular, inadequate irrational compensation to farmers and Delhi Government’s dual standards in giving the compensation to the families of Government employees dying on duty,” said Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay.

Upadhyay said that we have also brought it to the notice of Jung that all through the last three months, Delhi Government Ministers and ruling party MlAs have been repeatedly involved in the incidents of controversies and lawlessness. Perhaps this is the motivation why Delhi Government has brought out a circular to throttle media freedom.

“We have tried to explore the administrative avenue to resolve the grievances of farmers, DTC employees and media. But if the Delhi Government fails to resolve and satisfy the people, the Delhi BJP will be constrained to launch an agitation,” he added.
