AAP gives itself clean chit, seeks probe

Reacting to the allegations levied by AAP Volunteer Action Manch (AVAM), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders later in the evening on Monday said that they will write to the Supreme Court to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into not only the funding of AAP but also of BJP and Congress. The party further added that even in the past AAP has undergone two inquiries over their funding and been given a clean chit and they are ready for another investigation.

AAP’s senior leader Yogendra Yadav said, “For any political party, the amount of investigation required when donation comes in was done by the AAP when this money came in. We have the cheque details and the PAN number. The account that we received the money from is legitimate. It is not in our ambit to see where the company we are receiving money from is based when the bank account we are getting money from is legitimate.”

On the allegation that the money from all four companies came at 12 am on April 5, 2014, Yadav added, “AAP collects cheques over a period of time and deposits all cheques together. When the cheques are encashed the details are put on the website automatically. So if it says 12 am on the website, it doesn’t mean that the money was donated at 12 am, it means that it was encashed at 12 am.” AAP said that their party is the only party which is transparent about its funding. Further targeting the BJP for funding, AAP also said that BJP should be investigated for spending over Rs20,000 crore in the lok Sabha election campaign.
