AAP didn't allow discussion on VAT in House: BJP

Published on:

Sharpening its attack on the AAP, the BJP on Friday accused Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel and the AAP Government for not allowing discussion on VAT in the House and then “misleading” the media and people by claiming that the debate was held but Opposition MlAs did not participate in it.

Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay and leader of Opposition in Delhi legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta  levelled a series of charges. Both the leaders with party MlAs Om Prakash and Jagdish Pradhan lashed out at Deputy CM Manish Sisodia for not allowing the discussion on the controversial VAT proposal. The leader of Opposition blamed the Government for passing the crucial Amendment Bill in a hurry and not allowing the discussion on it.

Satish Upadhyay said, “The Delhi Government is showing the fear of marshals and want to curb the voice of Opposition”, adding, “This is shameful on the part of the Delhi Government that it is not allowing the Opposition to take part in the House proceedings and creating a wrong image of itself in society”. He further said, “The Delhi Government is misusing huge amount of public funds for creating its self image.” . Upadhyay criticised the Kejriwal Government for straying away from its main agenda.

Vijender Gupta blamed the Speaker for not giving him time to speak and raise important questions during the Budget Session of Delhi Assembly. He said, “The Speaker is not doing his duties according to the Constitution. He is behaving in a partial manner and six days were not enough for the Budget Session”. He further said the TV commercials of the Delhi Government were contempt of Supreme Court’s May 13 order, where the court clearly ruled out that no Government advertisement should try to glorify a politician.

Gupta said, “One of the founding members of the AAP and senior advocate Prashant Bhushan also condemned this move of the Government.” He said, “The Government led the proceedings of the Budget session as if there was an Emergency imposed in Delhi.”

BJP leader Om Prakash Singh said despite given the time to speak he was not allowed to speak. He said the leaders of the BJP would meet lt. Governor Najeeb Jung and would request him to take necessary action against the Government.
