AAP asks Upadhyay in 'self-denial' to prepare for a life of 'asceticism'

A day after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal said he would prove the allegations levelled against Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay, senior party leaders addressed the media quoting documents that prove their allegations. However, the former Chief Minister of Delhi was nowhere to be seen.

AAP leaders put forward several documents like tax deducted on source (TDS) records, VAT records, “suspicious” transactions and election affidavits submitted by Upadhyay in 2012 showing the “money-making process” he indulged in. However, where on one hand AAP is saying that Satish Upadhyay should resign because of evidence presented against him by the party, Upadhyay has gone ahead and filed a defamation case against Kejriwal.

The party on Thursday attacked Upadhyay saying that there is a nexus between Upadhyay and certain power distribution companies. The party asked how BJP had made Upadhyay its Delhi chief when he has alleged links with power discom BSES, further alleging that Upadhyay owns six companies one of which had two VAT numbers which is against law.

“NCNl Infomedia Private limited’s Memorandum of Association clearly shows that Satish and Umesh Upadhyay were equal owners at the time of incorporation. The Article of Association clearly lists them as first directors. Upadhyay had mentioned that he’s a shareholder and it is not a crime to be one. Upadhyay states that he doesn’t have any affiliation with NCNl Infomedia Private limited or BSES anymore. However, BSES Delhi’s list of approved contractors has NCNl Infomedia Private limited as Vendor No. 232306, valid unto 31 March 2015,” said senior party leaders.

The party also questioned Upadhyay’s claim that he has resigned from all private companies after 2012 after becoming a local councillor. However, the party released records from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs which clearly show he’s still a director in two companies. Following this, the party leaders asked Upadhyay to follow through on his promise of resignation on being exposed and “prepare for a life of asceticism”.

Senior leader Manish Sisodia added, “It is also now clear that the BJP does not have a concrete plan to revamp generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Delhi. It mimics AAP’s announcements and plans for Delhi, and attempts to take credit.”
