AAP accuses MCD of being apathetic towards providing people basic amenities

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday accused the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations of being apathetic towards running corporations smoothly and providing people the basic amenities.

Senior party leader Atishi said that all three municipal corporations that are responsible for maintaining parks, sanitation, running primary schools and providing street lights besides others, are being run without Commissioners for the last 15 days and even mayors are sitting outside the chief minister house for the last five days.

The AAP leader said “In the development of any city the municipality plays a very important role. In Delhi, in the year 1957 Delhi Municipal Corporation Act was passed and under this act, there are various responsibilities given to the MCD. There are various works which are very important for the day to day life of the citizens and these works come under the MCD. These works include sanitation, primary education, taking care of the street lights, maintenance of the park and many others.”

“DMC act 1957 has clearly mentioned these works of the MCD. But we need to understand who is responsible for doing these works. If we consider the mayor of any MCD as the concerned person for these works then you will see that all the three mayors of the MCDs are sitting outside the CM residence for the past several days and doing politics,” she said.

“At one side the mayors are sitting outside the residence of the Delhi Chief Minister and on the other hand the commissioners are on leave. So the question is who is running the BJP ruled MCD? The AAP wants to know who is responsible right now for the fact that the MCDs are completely headless. The Commissioners of the MCD are the most important executive but for the last two weeks, they are on leave which means that there is no one to look after the works of MCDs,” she said.
