The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Delhi government, accusing it of failing to deliver on its election promise of providing `2,500 per month to women before International Women’s Day.
Criticising the BJP-led Delhi government, the Leader of Opposition Atishi called Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantee a “jumla” and alleged that the saffron party had misled voters.
“The women of Delhi are waiting to see `2,500 messages on their phones. The BJP government has proved that Prime Minister Narendra Modi lied to them. I am sure, like this promise, all others will also be proven false,” Atishi said at a press conference.
However, the Leader of Opposition claimed that instead of starting disbursements, the government has only formed a four-member committee.
Earlier in the day, referring to a poll promise by the BJP, Leader of Opposition Atishi on Saturday said that women in Delhi are waiting for `2,500 to be
credited to their accounts.
In a video on X, Atishi said, “During election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised `2,500 to all the women by March 8. It has not yet been received.” Mahila Samridhi Yojana was one of the key poll promises in BJP’s manifesto during the Delhi Assembly election. The scheme promised to pay `2,500 per month as financial assistance to women in the national capital. Posting an International Women’s Day wish, the former chief minister said Delhi women must be waiting for it today.
“All the women of Delhi are staring at their phones today, waiting for the message of the money being deposited in their bank accounts,” Atishi said.
“I hope PM Modi fulfils his promise, and it does not turn out to be just a
jumla (false claim),” she added.
Delhi Congress president Devendra Yadav also came down heavily on the BJP government saying as expected, the BJP Government in Delhi backed out of its election promise of giving `2,500 to every woman in Delhi under the ‘Mahila Smriti Yojna’ scheme to empower women residents of the Capital, which it had promised to implement on International Women’s Day on March 8.
Yadav said Delhi Government would give this amount only to a limited number of women with very strict qualifying criteria, which in effect, will benefit less than 10 per cent of the over 71 Lakh women voters in the Capital, who had overwhelmingly supported the BJP in the Assembly elections. He said that the Chief Minister also did not make any mention about providing cooking gas cylinder for `500 with prices of every daily use item soaring to sky high. Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Prime Minister Modi had assured that once the BJP government was formed, the scheme would be approved in the first cabinet meeting, and funds would start reaching women’s accounts by March 8 (Women’s Day).
Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the state cabinet had approved the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, allocating `5,100 Crore for its implementation.
