AAP: BJP too bids for appeasement

Published on:

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday hit out at the Centre for its newly launched scheme to provide scholarship to five crore Muslim students over the next five years, saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is continuing the policy of  appeasement of the Congress.

Addressing the media persons, party senior leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said that the BJP’s hypocrisy has been exposed.

“The Muslim scholarship is being publicised by the Government with great fanfare. AAP welcomes the fact that the NDA Government’s attention has been drawn to Muslim students,” he said.

Singh said that the question is why students are being discriminated on religious grounds? How is this different from the same appeasement politics that BJP used to accuse the Congress of indulging in, he asked?

Singh further said that the AAP demands that all students, regardless of the community the belong to should be given scholarships for education.

“Such schemes should not be on religious grounds alone,” he said.

Pointing the BJP’s divisive discourse during the election campaign, Singh said, “We all remember the kind of language used by the Prime Minister and his party leaders in the run up to the election against minorities in the country. The sharp distinction between then and now is clearly visible to the people of the country. The BJP’s hypocrisy on the issue stands exposed,” he said.
