Aakash could have been saved: Kin

The family members of the deceased JNU student, Aakash, are yet to recover from the shock of losing their son. They still cannot believe their son could actually attack his classmate and try to kill her. For them, Aakash was a bright student, a calm and composed boy who was willing to help others.

Now, the family alleges that there was a deliberate delay on part of the faculty members of the language Department in taking him to the hospital. His life could have been saved if he was taken to the hospital on time.

The faculty members appeared to have been numbed by the sudden and gory attack on Roshni Gupta by her classmate Akash Kumar in the premises of the Korean language Department on Wednesday. “They failed to react on time,” alleged Aakash’s distraught family members.

His grief stricken family members cremated the body in hometown Gaya, in Bihar. "Aakash was made to sit near the staircase by a professor even though he was bleeding profusely. He was there for around 15 minutes. Students kept shouting that he should be rushed to the hospital, but the professor said that Aakash's act was that of a terrorist and not a student and that this is a criminal case," a family member said.

Denying allegations that there was a delay in rushing Aakash to the hospital, Sudhir K Sopory, Vice-Chancellor of JNU said that both were quickly rushed to the hospital and the two were immediately removed from the spot. "No faculty member made any delay. Even senior police officials said that they were taken to the hospital soon after the incident," he said.

Roshni's family members, on the other hand, refused to speak about the incident and said they wanted to focus on her recovery and health.

"She was a calm girl and spoke less. She wanted to come to JNU to study as her brother was also here. She had a focused mind. She liked reading books and listening to music," said her elder brother Sudhir Gupta.
