With no sight of any relief, air pollution in the national Capital has worsened to an extent that Delhiites are continuously suffering from respiratory diseases. On Sunday, suspended Particulate Matter (PM) 10 was recorded at 400.7 and PM 2.5 was 242.5 when the permissible limit for PM 10 is 100 whereas for PM 2.5 it is 60.
The deteriorating air pollution has put the health of people in serious threat. Toxins such as Benzene, Carbon Monoxide and Nitrogen Dioxide present in the air are also seemingly increasing with every passing day.
According to SAFAR, at the IGI Airport, the PM 10 and PM 2.5 level was recorded at 455 and 490 respectively, termed very critical whereas at Dhirpur, the PM 10 and PM 2.5 was 486 and 444 respectively.
Health officials said after Diwali, the cases of respiratory diseases are going to increase due to cracker burning. Also, the toxin in the air pollution can lead to ENT (ear, nose and throat) problems. City hospitals these days are witnessing spike in the number of patients coming for respiratory and ENT consultations. Even doctors have advised the people to use masks before stepping out of their homes.
On weather front, Delhi witnessed light fog in the morning whereas as in the evening, it was covered with thick sheet of smog. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature settled at 17.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above the normal. Humidity level was recorded at 83 per cent in the morning at 8.30 am, said a MeT department official.
