Three unidentified men uprooted an unguarded ATM machine containing Rs17.5 lakh in North Delhi, police said on Thursday. This is the second such incident that has happened in the national Capital in the past few days.

According to a police official of North district, a Corporation Bank ATM located in front of the Delhi Jal Board office at Wazirabad area in North Delhi was targeted by three men on a mini truck on Thursday at 2 am. The security guard Yogendra Kumar, who reported to duty at 6 am, noticed that the ATM

was missing from its designated place.

A police official said Kumar tried to call the bank manager, but found his mobile phone switched off.  He then contacted a field officer after which police was informed. “The thieves executed the operation in a matter of minutes. They took care of the CCTV cameras inside the ATM cabin by covering them with tapes before going ahead with the operation. But other CCTV cameras around the ATM machine enclosure have captured the faces of three suspects,” said an officer, adding the accused are

being identified.

The ATM is guarded till 11 pm every day, but no security guard is deployed at the ATM between 11 pm and 6 am. The ATM had been replenished on Wednesday evening because of which it was cash-heavy.

A case under the section 379 (theft) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered and police have rounded

up several suspects from

the locality.

On Tuesday, some men had attempted to break open a UCO Bank ATM with the help of a chisel and a hammer. Police however, managed to nab one of them after a resident heard the sound of hammer pounding from inside the ATM booth.
