Constable Jagvir’s sole purpose in life was to serve the citizens of his country. He was attracted to the uniform and laid down his life in the line of duty wearing his vardi. Jagvir is survived by his wife Anju and 17-year-old son Ankit, a student of Class XI.
It was his love for the uniform that led him to join Delhi Police and it was the same love that snuffed out his life on Monday. Jagvir had served in the Indian Army for over 15 years and had joined Delhi Police in 2008. His parents passed away some years back. His father retired from the Indian Army as Subedar. His elder brother also retired as a Subedar.
Jagvir was the youngest in the family. He has three brothers and two sisters. He lived in Haridas Enclave, Jharoda Kalan with his family. He hailed from Bhiwani district of Haryana.
Before coming to Vijay Vihar police station he was posted at Aman Vihar police station. He was feted the Best Beat Constable when he was with Aman Vihar police station and won the same award when he moved to Vijay Vihar police station. “Police officials have assured us that the culprits will be nabbed soon. I just hope the laws are stringent,” said Amit, his brother-in law.
Constable Narender, who was injured, also managed to reach the police station.
He also called up his wife to assure her that everything was fine and that he was shot by some assailants.
He was earlier posted with Mangolpuri police station and had joined the force in 1994. He has two sons studying at a Government school in Delhi.
