A lighthouse to show way to better future

Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday inaugurated the first Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) Lighthouse in Kalkaji.

Last year, the DSEU had entered into an agreement with Pune-based non-profit Lighthouse Communities Foundation to set up lighthouses near slum clusters of Delhi in order to help disadvantaged youth earn a livelihood. The other lighthouses are expected to come up at Malkaganj, Matia Mahal and Patparganj.

While inaugurating the Kalkaji Lighthouse, Sisodia, who is also the Education Minister, said that this lighthouse will offer high quality short-term vocational skilling courses as well as a plethora of employment opportunities for youth between 18-30 years of age.

“The DSEU is the first one in the country, which has taken such a unique step to equip youth of underserved communities with new-age skills at a university-level centre in the slum clusters itself,” said the Education Minister. Sisodia further said that in the unprecedented times of Covid, crores of people have lost their jobs across the country and keeping in view the need for jobs in the city, the Delhi Government has started this lighthouse in association with experts from

Lighthouse Communities Foundation and Michael and Susan Dell Foundation to provide world-class skills, professional development and job oriented skills training to the youth of Delhi.

“Even after graduating today, youth struggle for jobs, but after they pursue skill-based courses here, companies themselves will come and give jobs to the youth,” he added.

“The DSEU will also go to the slums and give admission to the children there. This will be the first time in the history of the country when children will not go to the university to take admission, but the university itself will go to the children and give them admission,” said Sisodia.

Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Atishi said that it is the vision of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that every child of Delhi gets a good education and then a good job.

“My community members at Kalkaji had been requesting me to do something to get jobs for the youth of the Kalkaji area. So the Government decided to get the first DSEU Lighthouse here, to end all their woes about their children’s future.

This Lighthouse will spread the light of education among youth of Kalkaji and Delhi, will open new avenues for employment,” said Atishi.
