In the run up to the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s wife Peng liyuan to the Capital, students of Tagore International School are busy in preparations. While cultural performances are being planned, students have learnt a Chinese song and a poem to present in front of the First lady of the People’s Republic of China on Thursday.
Principal Madhulika Sen said that students were preparing a slew of cultural events for liyuan. “Students have prepared a Kathak performance and will also be presenting Rabindranath Tagore’s When the Mind is Without Fear. They have also prepared one Chinese song along with one Chinese poem which they will recite at the event. The students performing these songs will mainly be the ones who are learning Mandarin Chinese. They will be part of the programme actively since they have interest in that field,” she said.
Around 75 students from Classes VIII to XII will be attending the programme where liyuan will teach calligraphy. “We will first be screening a slide show on our main distance learning programme in Shanghai. Then there will be cultural events after which the First lady of China will teach students Calligraphy. The entire event would last 45 minutes.” The lady is expected to be there by 11 am on Thursday.
