An 85-year-old man from Manipur succumbed to the vector-borne disease at AIIMS on Sunday midnight. He came to Delhi for his grandson's second birthday celebration, said family friends.
"It has been four days since Betit has died. All his family members have gone to Manipur for the last rites," Kennedy (35), Betit's neighbour told The Pioneer. "If he did not come to Delhi, Betit might be alive,” said Kennedy.
According to Kennedy, Betit was fit when he came here to celebrate the birthday of his two-year-old grandson, Fareedy. "It was from the last few days, his health started deteriorating. He was taken to AIIMS for treatment where doctors said that he was suffering from dengue," said Betit's neighbour. He died in the dengue ward of AIIMS, informed Kennedy.
Earlier, AIIMS reported three dengue deaths. Apart from an AIIMS technician, a son of an AIIMS staffer also died last week. Punita Jha, 33, who was a resident of Kirai Village, succumbed to deadly disease at AIIMS. A 10-year-old Manipuri girl had died at the AIIMS on August 5 after a week of high fever.
