Eight Nepali girls being trafficked to Gulf countries were rescued by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), along with the Delhi Police in a raid at a Paharganj hotel on Thursday. The girls were being trafficked on the pretext of giving jobs in Delhi, Iraq and Kuwait.
According to the DCW spokesperson, the Commission received a tipoff from an NGO KI Nepal that some Nepali girls were been kept in Hotel Omaxe Deluxe and were being trafficked to gulf countries. Thereon, DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal along with Members Vandana Singh and Kiran Negi conducted a raid in the hotel with the assistance of Delhi Police and found these 8 Nepali girls who were rescued immediately. The staff of KI Nepal NGO also accompanied the team.
After the rescue, Maliwal said, “DCW and KI Nepal rescued 8 girls from Hotel Omaxe Paharganj who were being trafficked to Gulf and promised jobs in Iraq & Kuwait. The hotel is also complicit in crime. Sadly Delhi is a major transit route for trafficking Nepalese girls to Gulf. I urge Ministry of Home Affairs and Nepal Government to end this crime.”
The spokesperson further said that the girls were brought from earthquake affected areas in Nepal and were told that they will be given jobs in Delhi. The owner did not charge them for their stay. Passports of some have been taken away by their agents. After having waited for several days in the hotel with many of them without their passports, they were very concerned and desperate to go back to Nepal but had no means to do so, the spokesperson added.
