`8-cr old note 'scam' in DTC: loP seeks Transport Min's resignation

Published on:

leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta on Wednesday demanded resignation of Transport Minister Satyender Jain over the report that some officials of the

Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) deposited demonetised notes worth `8.15 crores in banks between November 8 and 20.

“It is a matter of deep concern that scrapped `500 and `1,000 notes were deposited by DTC officials despite DTC management asking the conductor not to accept demonetised notes," he said.

Gupta said it is essential to probe how the notes and coins of small denominations were converted into `500 and `1,000 notes in such huge numbers.

The leader of Opposition also demanded time bound investigation by Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) so that the culprits could be immediately identified and suspended as part of first step. However, the detailed investigation could continue for punishing the officers responsible for the grave offence, said the Opposition leader.

Gupta said the Transport Minister should take moral responsibility for this major lapse as he failed to

exercise effective control over his subordinates resulting in their acquiring large leverage for depositing their black money in DTC accounts.

Some senior officers might have been motivated by hefty commission, he said.
