With an aim to provide ‘pucca houses’ to the thousands of families living in JJ clusters across the national Capital, the Delhi Government has launched its ‘Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makaan’ scheme in the city. On Tuesday, the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal chaired a high-level meeting to review the plans for in-situ rehabilitation of JJ clusters on the Delhi Government lands under the ‘Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makaan’ scheme. The meeting was held at the Delhi Secretariat in the presence of Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain.

According to officials, around 78,000 families will be rehabilitated to permanent houses in a phased manner and about 16,000 families will benefit in the first phase.

“The Government has set a three-year deadline for the first 16,000 flats and has directed officers to provide all basic facilities to ensure hassle-free rehabilitation. The flats will be developed on the land of the slums itself instead of the previous provision of developing flats inside a 5 kilometers radius,” the official added.

“These families will be given houses at the same site as where they have their slums. Till the time the pucca houses are constructed, these families will be temporarily shifted to the flats of Delhi Government which have already been developed. Special care will be taken to ensure that these temporary flats are also provided near their slums. Once the DUSIB flats get developed, these families will be shifted to them permanently,” said another official.
