75-yr-old woman found murdered at her house

A 75-year-old woman was found murdered at her house in South West Delhi's Najafgarh on Friday morning. Police said it does not appear to be a robbery attempt that went wrong but they are probing all angles.

Police said the matter came to light when they received a PCR call from deceased Pushpa Rani's tenant, who lived on the first floor, stating that Rani was lying unconscious, with blood on the ground. Soon a police team rushed to the spot and took the woman to hospital near their house, where she was declared brought dead. Her body has been preserved in Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and post mortem is being conducted.

According to a senior police official, the woman has wounds on her neck and it appears she was murdered late at night or earlier in the morning, as the blood on her neck and the floor had dried up.

Her tenant was the first one to have noticed Rani lying in a pool of blood and immediately informed the cops about it. She told the police that Rani was a very active woman and she could hear her talk and laugh every morning.

But Friday morning was unusual. When she did not hear anything from Rani, she went to check on her and found the house opened. As she walked in, she saw Rani lying on the floor in the kitchen. She raised an alarm and alerted others, who reached there to offer help. By that time a PCR call was made and the cops too arrived at the house.

DCP of Dwarka district Shibesh Singh said the entry into the house seems to be friendly. “We have registered a case at the Najafgarh police station and have formed a team to crack the case,” he said.

Police said the woman was a housewife and lived alone after her husband, who used to work at a Government school, passed away a couple of years back. She has a daughter, who is married and lives with her family in Rohini.
