A septuagenarian allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at South-East Delhi’s Sunder Nagar area. Police said prima facie evidence suggests that it’s a case of suicide as the 74-year-old deceased was suffering from depression for the last four years.

Identified as Yadav Nath Bhargava, he was living with his wife and son in upmarket Sundar Nagar. Chinmoy Biswal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South-East district said, a Police Control Room (PCR) call was received regarding the incident around 9 am following which Station House Officer of Hazrat Nizamuddin police station along with police team reached the spot.

“Police team found Bhargava lying in pool of blood with gunshot injury on his temple. During initial investigation it was revealed that Bhargava has his own dry-cleaning business in Kashmiri Gate market which is now being looked after by his son Gaurav,” said the DCP.

“Bhragava was residing at his current address with his wife and son Gaurav since 1959.  On Tuesday at about 08:15 am, on hearing a loud bang Mamta Bhargava, wife of the deceased, sent her domestic help to check and it was found that Bhargava was lying in the bathroom and blood was oozing from his temple. His licensed revolver was also lying nearby,” said the DCP.

“Initial probe also suggested that Bhargava was suffering from ‘hard cough problem’ for the last six years and was in depression. As no foul play was found or suspected by the family members, hence inquest proceedings are on in the case.  District crime team inspected the spot. Body been sent for autopsy,” said the DCP adding that further probe is going on.
