Delhi University (DU) may not scale the marks of aspirants from different State education boards on scale of 70:30. DU usually follows pro-rata calculation by which it scales the marks of aspirants on 70: 30 scales.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) gives 70 for the theory and 30 for the practical in subjects in class XII. As majority of those who seek admission in Undergraduate (UG) courses of DU are from CBSE board, the university employs the method of scaling the marks of students from other boards in theory and practical respectively on scale of 70:30.
According to sources, the admission committee has decided not apply pro-rata calculation for students of different boards before making cut-off and make merit based on 100 marks. However, the decision is differed in the Standing Committee on Admissions, as a result admission committee is again pondering on its decision.
"This would be injustice to aspirants as students from all boards need to be judged on scale. The pro-rata calculation method of DU at-least brings some parity among boards," said a member of Standing Committee on Admissions.
A DU teacher told that different state boards have different marking schemes and some boards are allegedly known for leniency in practical and theory marks. "Judging all state boards and CBSE out of absolute 100 would certainly not be fair. The pro-rata calculation is the best possible way to bring all on the same platform," he said.
The admissions to Undergraduate (UG) courses of Delhi University are likely to begin from 11 May with opening of registration process on the admission portal. Majority of students who apply for various undergraduate courses of DU are from the CBSE board followed by other state boards.
