The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) in its inspection report of 181 night shelters has found that out of the 181, only 7 night shelters have no provision for water. The night shelters where water was not available include shelters at Taimur Nagar, Neela Gumbad, Vasant Vihar Pahari and four night shelters in and around Sarai Kale Khan.

Taking umbrage, the department has suspended six junior engineers and assistant engineer and a showcause notice has been issued to NGOs running the shelters for failure to provide basic amenities. The inspection was carried out by DUSIB chief executive officer (CEO) Amarnath following directions from lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung. The lieutenant-Governor has directed DUSIB CEO to review the availability of water in night shelters and to carry out an extensive inspection drive of all the 181 night shelters in Delhi and submit a status report by May 1. Following the directives, DUSIB carried out an inspection of all the 181 night shelters by the engineering staff between April 30 and May 1.
