The move to confer freehold ownership rights to people in 45 resettlement colonies on September 10 at Yamuna Sports Complex in East Delhi will benefit around 7 lakh families allotted plots varying from 25 square yards to 80 square yards on licence basis.

The resettlement colonies were developed by DDA between 1950 and 1970 under schemes to accommodate people dislocated during removal of JJ clusters. However, many of these colonies are now situated in the heart of Delhi and include areas like Satya Niketan, Sunlight Colony, Dakhshinpuri, Pandav Nagar, Shakarpur, Jehangirpuri and Naraina. land was allotted in the resettlement colonies, including Aruna Nagar and Majnu ka Tila, which comprised a total of about 2,50,000 plots. Officials said the Supreme Court had, in September 2010, given the green signal for granting ownership rights to the allottees.

The occupants, who have been allotted the plots before March 31, 2007, will have to pay 10 per cent of the circle rate. The occupants, who are there from April 1, 2007 onwards, will have to pay 30 per cent of the circle rate. The Delhi Government has recommended 5 per cent (original allottees) and 15 per cent (not original allottees) of the circle rate to grant ownership right to resettlers.
