Seven gunmen in broad daylight laid siege to District Cooperative Bank in Dhaulana town of Hapur district and vamoosed with Rs 70 lakh crisp currency on Tuesday.
The robbers rode into town on three bikes reaching the gates of the bank at 1 pm. They seemed to have done their homework well since it is around this time everyday that cash is transferred from the bank vaults to the cashvans.
The few bank employees who dared stand up to the gunmen were knocked out cold. Six bank employees, including the branch manager, cashier and security guards, sustained critical injuries and are currently in ICU of a Ghaziabad city hospital.
“A team of officers has been formed to catch the thieves who were challenged by the villagers of Saulana but managed to free themselves,” said K Satyanarayana, DIG of Meerut Range.
