63 minors rescued, 23 traffickers held

In one of the biggest rescue operations of trafficked children, the Delhi Police on Wednesday rescued 63 of them from Old Delhi Railway Station following an NGO’s complaint. Police also arrested 23 people on the charges of trafficking minor children for bonded labourers.

All the children rescued from the clutches of the traffickers are in the age group of 7-17 years and most of them belonged to Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh and Motihari in Bihar. The traffickers enticed the parents promising that their children would be able to send home money regularly by working at factories in Punjab and Delhi. The traffickers were bringing the children from Bihar and were taking them to Punjab via Delhi. They were supposed to board a train for Punjab from Old Delhi railway station when they were intercepted by a Delhi Police team waiting for them.
