Power discom BSES has imparted self-defence training to around 6,200 girls in the past three years under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, a company spokesperson said.

“Since the programme’s inception three years ago, the BSES has trained over 6,200 girls from over 50 schools and educational institutions under the initiative," the spokesperson said.

"The 10-day training module involves educating the girls on the importance of speaking out, raising an alarm, getting out of tricky situations, and identifying difference between good touch and bad touch," he added

"BSES discoms, BYPl and BRPl, have partnered with the Delhi Polices Special Unit for Women amd Children and a private organisation to impart self-defence training to school girls, he said.

He further said that the participants during training are made aware of possible threats to them in their day-to- day situations along with situational analysis and suggested precautions. "The initiative also strives to equip the participants with the necessary skills, making them capable of managing their own safety. Besides the physical training, the participants are also given tips to handle sticky situations," he added.

According to a BSES spokesperson, "BSES' CSR efforts already have impacted the lives of over 2 lakh (and counting) people and their families. Apart from self defence, these initiatives include adult literacy programme and health and eye care camps, which have benefited over 50,000 of the underprivileged people".
