Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday terminated six employees after conducting a surprise inspection at some of the child care centres.
While addressing a Press conference, Sisodia said during his inspection, he found fake registrations of children in three Anganwadis located in Krishna Nagar and Gandhi Nagar area of east Delhi.
“Out of six Anganwadis which I inspected, three of them had maintained fake registry of children. There were no children present at the centre and when I inquired about it, nobody gave a convincing answer,” Sisodia said.
Sisodia said he visited about 200 households in the vicinity and found that 75 per cent names were fake in the registry.
“I went door-to-door to enquire about the children that were shown enrolled in the registry. It was shocking when I found that nobody exist by these names,” Sisodia said. Soon after the visit, the Minister gave the termination orders.
He has ordered 40 CDPOs (Child Development Project Officer) to inspect at least one Anganwadi every week and do a similar door-to-door inspection to verify the names of the children enrolled at the centre.
The officers, Sisodia added, “will report to me, and then I will personally visit the places to make sure that the investigation conducting by the officers are authentic.”
Seeking people’s help, Sisodia said the Government spent Rs 400 crore every year on Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) from public money and hence it is imperative that people should inform Government if they find any irregularities in Anganwadis at their respective areas.
