Delhi Police Commissioner, SN Shrivastava on Saturday welcomed 53 de-addicted youth into Delhi Police’s skill training initiative “YUVA” on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
“The programme was conducted through web conferencing by linking five skill training centres in five districts where these new trainees were enrolled, while the CP joined from Vimarsh Conference Hall in Police Headquarters,” said Chinmoy Biswal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Crime, Narcotics Cell.
On the occasion, Shrivastava spelt out the life debilitating ill impacts of drug abuse on youth and exhorted the youth to choose life with fighting spirit, not take recourse to drugs or psychotropic substances ever.
Stating that drug abuse experiences are unreal and imaginary where one loses control and suffers loss, Shrivastava urged the youth never to fall in the tentacles of drugs, saying “never even try once”.
The CP further said that police officers should identify the youth falling prey to addiction and help them come back to mainstream, besides taking tough action on the supply networks of narcotics.
He said the rehabilitation of youth is necessary and Delhi Police has taken a big step in integrating them with skill development programmes and job training by enrolling them in YUVA in which the Delhi Police has set out an ambitious “Mission 10,000” to train 10,000 youth in skill development.
Various programmes were also organized by the Narcotics Cell of Crime Branch to highlight the dangers of drug abuse and to create awareness amongst the public on Saturday.
“An Online Painting Competition on drug abuse was held in which students of class 9 to 12 of Happy Public School, Daryaganj and Abhinav Public School, Pitampura took part and submitted their entries,” said the DCP.
