A five-year-old girl was killed after she was allegedly run over by a speeding tractor while she was playing near her house in Outer Delhi’s Bawana area on Sunday afternoon. Police said that the locals managed to nab the accused driver and handed him over to the police, who was subsequently arrested.
The incident took place at around 12.15pm in the JJ colony of Bawana industrial area when Neha (5) was playing in the narrow lane outside her house. Satish, the errant driver, was driving the tractor through the lane, said a police officer.
Police said that Neha came under the wheels of the tractor.
However, when he tried to reverse the vehicle, she was badly crushed under the wheels. Hearing her loud cries, locals and native residents of the colony rushed to the spot and nabbed the accused and handed him over to the police.
Police said that they have registered a case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death due to negligence) at the Bawana police station against the accused.
Further investigation is underway.
