49 DAYS & 16 U-TURNS! Congress' booklet scoffs at 'Muffler U-turn'

In a scathing attack on AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Congress on Monday released a booklet highlighting the “U-turns” taken by the AAP chief during his 49-day tenure as Delhi Chief Minister. The booklet cites 16 promises, which were left unfulfilled by the former Delhi Chief Minister. This means after every third day, Kejriwal has taken a “U-turn”. “We are showing a Muffler U-turn. From red beacons in the Government cars to bungalows, there are 16 points of U-turn during his 49-day tenure,” said Maken.

The eight-page booklet titled — 49 dino ki ultee chaal, Dilli hui behal, U-turn Kejriwal — aimed at warning voters how “dangerous” it could be to give power again to the AAP. Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh lovely, Haroon Yusuf and PC Chacko were also present. Maken said that along with the list of fake promises, there is also a copy of an affidavit that was signed by Kejriwal before taking charge as the Chief Minister.

The booklet alleged that its 49-day rule was a nightmare for the people with Kejriwal specialising in U-turns. Claiming that Kejriwal could have created a “world record” on going back on his words, Maken gave the AAP chief the sobriquet of “Muffler U-turn” as his image in public is that of a man donning a muffler and is often referred to as the “Muffler Man” by his supporters.

Maken said that the AAP convener had first stated he would not be joining politics. He had said, “We do not need to get into the system to fight it. We want to pressurise the Government and assert our rights as everyone who has a dream need not get into politics… I must say that it is the right of every Indian to enter politics, but in Kejriwal’s case it shows striking hypocrisy.”

Maken said that Kejriwal had sworn-in his affidavit that he would not use official bungalow, security and red-beacons. “He not only stabbed social activist Anna Hazare at his back but also demanded two lavish Government flats for himself and in the end took an eight-room lavish home during his tenure.” One of the key points is Kejriwal’s quitting office over the lokpal Bill issue. “He did not consult the people when he had to quit office, though he had sworn to do just that,” Maken said.

Alleging that AAP Ministers travelled in Metro to take oath and then demanded SUVs, and Kejriwal despite claiming to represent the common man, lived in an eight-room bungalow, Maken questioned how the party could expect Delhiites to vote for them. The booklet also contains the ideological contradictions by Kejriwal, who once said, “Everyone who has a dream need not get into politics,” Maken added.

One of the comments of Kejriwal about paid media is also mentioned. “He says media is the reason why we are where we are. later, they say the media has been bought over,” Maken pointed out. “We have to remember all of this when we vote,” he added. The booklet said that former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, who recently joined the BJP, had gone on record saying that “Kejriwal ran away with all the funds, Facebook users and database of India Against Corruption.”

Maken said he, lovely and Yusuf were “Amar, Akbar and Anthony” as “our friendship goes a long way in Congress politics. “We are Amar, Akbar and Arvinder of our party.”
