In a recent of case of hair chopping in Delhi-NCR, hair of a 45-year-old woman was mysteriously chopped off in Outer Delhi's Ranhola area on Tuesday night.
According to a senior police officer, the latest incident of hair chopping came to light on Tuesday night when they received a PCR call at around 11 pm. "45-year-old woman Omvati was heading towards the toilet from her bedroom. After she came out, she started feeling dizzy and fell unconscious on the ground. Hours later, when her granddaughter saw Omvati lying on the floor, with her tresses lying beside.
The woman in her statement to police mentioned that she did not see anyone to enter her room or anything suspicious.
This is the fifth incident in a matter of 72 hours when three women from Southwest Delhi's Kanganheri village and a 50-year-old woman from Palam area reported that they were knocked unconscious and their locks were cut by unidentified person.
Following the string of hair chopping incidents in the Southwest Delhi, DCP said that they had registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Investigators said that they had roped in counsellors to question the victims. "We are working on these cases from all angles. In the first theory, we suspected that these women cut their hair themselves. However, after the counsellors questioned them, it became clear that the victims are not indulging these acts. Besides, in the three incidents which were reported from Kanganheri village, we analysed the CCTV footage of the cameras installed, yet could not establish the identity of the people.
In order to carry out the investigations, we even seized the chopped off hair and scissors from the victims and sent them to Forensic Science laboratory.
Talking about the recent incident reported from Palam and Ranhola, police said that the woman have not come forward with a written complaint.
Meanwhile, cases of hair chopping have spread from Rajasthan, Haryana to Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. In another incident, hair of woman was allegedly chopped off in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.
