A 42-year-old worker fell to death from the ninth floor of a DMRC construction site near northeast Delhi's Shastri Park metro station on Wednesday. His family members said he could not have jumped on his own. He could have been saved had he been wearing the safety gear, which the workers are not provided, they added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Pankaj Singh said, "The deceased was identified as Kunkun Paswan, a native of Bihar. We received a PCR call at around 10.30am from a passerby who saw the man falling at under-construction site of the Shastri Park metro station."
The deceased's son Rajesh Paswan told police that his father had shifted to Delhi around five months back, since he got a better job opportunity here. "I had come to meet my father just two days back and had gone to the construction site with him. I was on the ground floor while my father worked on the ninth. A few moments later, I heard him shouting for help as he fell from the building," said Rajesh.
Rajesh said that he asked for help and alerted everyone. A few people then gathered there and with their help, Rajesh managed to take his father to a private hospital nearby, but due to excessive bleeding, he died while on his way to the hospital, cops said.
He claimed that he could not have committed suicide since he did not have any reason to take such an extreme step.
Police said that no suicide note was found on him and they have registered a case under section 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence) of the IPC at the Shastri Park metro police station and investigations in the case are being made.
The DMRC spokesperson, however, said that, "We are investigating the incident and will take the strictest possible action in the matter in case violations from safety norms prescribed are found."
