A total of 120 teams consisting of enforcement wing of Transport Department, along with 400 ex-servicemen, will enforce the odd-even scheme in Delhi from April 15 to 30.

These teams are also directed to randomly check vehicles with CNG stickers to keep a check on misuse of such stickers. If a non-CNG vehicle is found with CNG sticker, not only will it be challaned, but a case of fraud will also be registered against it, said Tranport Minister

Gopal Rai.

The 400 ex-servicemen hired by the Transport Department to be a part of its enforcement wing conducted a rehearsal parade in the presence of the transport Minister outside the Delhi Secretariat on Friday afternoon.

Sources said the parade was conducted to showcase the fitness level of the ex-servicemen as Gopal Rai was concerned about it.

Rai said since the Government doesn’t want the work of SDMs and tehsildars to be affected, that was the reason that they decided to hire ex-servicemen. It must be noted that during the first edition of odd-even scheme, the enforcement teams consisted of Transport Department officials, SDMs and Tehsildars.

“These ex-servicemen will work with the experienced officials of Tansport Department who were involved in odd-even part one as well. All the teams will have their own vehicles and mobile phones,” Rai said.

Sources said these ex-servicemen will be given a salary of Rs 15,500 per month.

Rai said the enforcement teams will cover major entry points and major junctions of the city to prosecute vehicles violating odd-even restrictions.

“They will also be deployed at metro stations, bus stops and railway stations to ensure that people don’t face any inconvenience while hailing taxis and auto rickshaws. These teams will check refusal and misbehavior by auto and taxi drivers so that there is no inconvenience to public,” said Rai, adding that a helpline number will also be launched soon to make complaints if anyone faces any harassment.

The teams will be allocated duties from Saturday so that they could understand the challan system and gather the experience of the field by April 15.
