Delhi Police Crime Branch on Friday arrested a 40-year-old man who had cheated more than 2,000 people to the tune of Rs 20 crore.
Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) said, “The accused Raman Kapoor, Director of Sun Star, The Club and Goodluck Hotels Pvt ltd, from Madhya Pradesh was wanted in several cases of cheating in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat and has cheated thousands of members on the pretext of providing luxurious holiday tour packages in 5 star hotels.”
Police said that Raman Kapoor along with his wife and associates used to lure the poeple for free dinner in 5-star hotels and then used to sell membership by promising attractive offer of 12 nights free holiday tour packages annually in 5-star hotels with air tickets for 20 years if membership is taken. They claimed that the Sun Star has tie-up with various 5-star properties at all prime tourist locations in India and abroad like JW Marriot (Mumbai, Courtyard, Ahmedabad & lucknow), le Meridian (Delhi & Chennai), ITC Welcome (Dwarka, Delhi), leela Ambience Hotel (Delhi), Four Points by Sheraton (Vadodara). The accused also told the members that they can discontinue membership on 10th/20th year and they will get back the entire membership amount.
Police said that they had received a complaint from one Manoj Kumar stating that he has been cheated by a group of cheats to the tune of Rs 1 lakh on the pretext of providing holiday tour packages by a company Good luck Hotel ltd/Sun Star Club after luring him for dinner in 5-Star Hotel in Delhi. The representatives of the company cheated the complainant on the pretext of providing holiday packages for 12 nights per year in 5-star hotels with air-tickets for 20 years after membership. But when he tried to avail the holiday, he did not get any response from the company.
Investigations under DCP Bhisham Singh were taken up and several raids were conducted across Delhi, Gujarat, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
