Ten days after a four-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Northwest Delhi’s Keshavpuram area on November 21, the Delhi Police on Thursday said they have arrested one of the accused in the sensational rape-cum-murder case.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Amarjeet, alias Chupram (25). Amarjeet is married and has a four-year-old daughter and his family resides in Begusarai district of Bihar.
Investigations revealed that on the day of the incident, Amarjeet had alcohol with the victim’s father, hours before he allegedly abducted the minor girl and raped her.
“Amarjeet lived merely 50 metres from the victim’s house. He and the girl’s father were good friends. After having liquor at the victim’s house, Amarjeet went out and lured with the four-year-old with toffees and took her to an isolated spot where he raped her and strangled her.”
After committing the heinous crime, Amarjeet fled and hid at a friend’s place in Outer Delhi’s Bawana industrial area.
“The accused kept his phone switched off for a long time. In between, he switched on his phone and our teams traced him and arrested him,” said the official.
Police said they identified Amarjeet in one of the CCTV grabs where he was seen walking up to the victim while she was playing with some children.
A team of police was formed and sent to Bawana in search of Amarjeet. Over 100 factories were searched.
Five police officials even went to Bihar where his wife and four-year-old daughter live, to nab Amarjeet if he turns up there.
On November 30, around 3.15 am, Amarjeet made another call to his wife. The call was traced and his location intercepted. Police said he has confessed to his crimes during interrogation.
