Four people posing as officers of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) swindled a jewellery shop salesman and his colleague by making away with diamond jewellery worth around Rs15 lakh. Claiming that they were on a surprise raid, the conmen fled with the jewellery.
The incident took place on Saturday night and a case of impersonation and cheating has been registered against the conmen on the complaint of Kumar at the Kotwali Police station.
The victims identified as Pawan Kumar and Abhay, were on their way to their shop in Chandni Chowk with a consignment of diamond jewellery worth around Rs40 lakh from a supplier based in Karol Bagh. They were stopped by four men.
“The man introduced himself as a CBI officer and claimed that they will check their bag as they received a special input that bombs are being supplied in the area. In the meantime, three more men, who also claimed to be CBI officers, arrived,” said a police officer adding when the victims reached the shop they found that three out of nine packets of diamond were missing.
