The Delhi Police has arrested four persons in connection with the city’s biggest heist of Rs26 crore from Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh. The truck containing electronic goods of Samsung, which was driven off by the accused after thrashing the driver in Sarita Vihar area was also recovered. Three persons involved in the crime are still on the run. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East district), MS Randhawa, the accused — Pramod (25), Sarvesh (27), Vinod Kumar Yadav (29) and his brother Pramod Yadav (25) — were arrested after raids in several areas in Western UP. All of them are drivers by profession and Pramod is the mastermind of the incident.

The robbery took place on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The truck’s driver, identified as Ghanshyam, called up police, informing that he worked with A to Z transport company and was going to deliver the consignment to Noida when a white car intercepted and made away with his container at knifepoint.

The police investigation found involvement of previous employee and driver into the case. It was learnt that Sarvesh, the driver of another truck, was frequently using his mobile phone at the time of taking the delivery of goods. “Sarvesh was in touch with Pramod, who earlier worked as a driver with the company and had left the job a year ago,” said Randhawa.

The raids were conducted at their hideouts in Western Uttar Pradesh and the truck was recovered with looted articles from Kasganj. Their accomplices Vinod Kumar Yadav and Pramod Yadav (both brothers) were also arrested.

During interrogation, it was learnt that all were drivers and Pramod was the mastermind, who aspired to earn easy money and own a transport company. He contacted Sarvesh, who wanted to buy his own canter, and hatched the conspiracy to rob a loaded canter. As per their plan, when the canters carrying goods left IGI Airport in Palam, Pramod, Manku, Neeraj and Vinesh followed in Tata Sumo of Vinesh. Driver Sarvesh was in touch to tell them the location of canters on his mobile phone. “When the canter reached near Sarita Vihar flyover, on Kalindi Kunj Road, they intercepted the canter and robbed it along with the goods at knifepoint and fled,” said the officer.
