Delhi Police on Tuesday said that they have arrested four people in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old man, who was allegedly lynched to death by the group of men over a theft in North-West Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area on Sunday evening.
Milind Dumbere, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) said, “Four people have been arrested in the case. The accused identified are Subhash (35), Andip (33), Harender (55) and Anoop (25). We are searching for the fifth accused. Further probe is on.”
The lynching came to light on Monday morning when the Delhi Police received a PCR call at around 7.15am when a passer-by spotted the body of a middle aged man in open fields in the area of Swaroop Nagar. The deceased was identified as Shankar.
Police said that the family of Shankar had claimed that he was mentally unstable and in light of this, he was undergoing treatment.
On the night of his murder, Shankar was tied by a rope to a pole and was thrashed black and blue till he lost conscious. Assuming that Shankar had died, two of the accused picked up Shankar’s body, rode to an isolated agricultural field behind Vijay Chowk in a bike and dumped it there, said police.
“On Sunday night, at around 9.30pm, a few people had spotted Shankar picking up something from a factory in the Swaroop Nagar area. Assuming that the 28-year-old Shankar was stealing the spare parts from the godown, the group of five held Shankar and lynched him to death, a senior police officer said.
