Four people were killed while seven others injured in a road accident on Yamuna Expressway near Tappal in Aligarh district on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Police said the accident took place 38 km away from the zero point (Greater Noida-Aligarh border), when a tyre of the victims’ car blew out suddenly leading the vehicle to turning over several times hitting the divider.
A case has been registered with the Tappal Police station as the jurisdiction falls under the Aligarh Police. Police said the accident took place at around 12:30 am when 11 people were travelling from Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad towards Etawah district.
The injured were admitted to Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida, where four were declared "brought dead", while condition of two injured ones was stated to be critical.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Vijendra Singh (55), Nirale (40), Rahimpal (25) and Ram Kumar (28), along with seven others were returning home after attending a wedding ceremony in Ghaziabad. They all are residents of Etawah district.
Though prime facie it appears the tyre burst due to over-speeding, but police said the reason of the accident is yet to be ascertained. The velocity of the crash could be judged from looking at the front portion of the SUV, which was totally smashed and police had to use gas-cutter to cut the gate and evacuate the victims.
Brajesh Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police (Rural) of Greater Noida, said that they have sent the bodies of the four deceased for post-mortem examination.
They will hand over the deceased to their kin and send the post-mortem report to Aligarh Police, so they could initiate further proceeding.
