Congress candidate from New Delhi, Ajay Maken, on Thursday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Centre for causing immense loss of livelihoods in the national Capital by failing to stop sealing of businesses in Delhi and introducing “arbitrary” economic policies like demonetisation, Goods and Services Act (GST).
Addressing the public gathering, Maken claimed that 4,70,00,000 jobs have been lost as a result of notebandi alone.
Maken on Thursday addressed public meetings in various areas of New Delhi constituency such as Greater Kailash, RK Puram, Rajinder Nagar, Malviya Nagar areas.
He raised the issue of atrocities against trading community in Mayapuri and informed them that he had submitted a memorandum to National Human Rights Commission objecting to police and paramilitary excesses on traders in Mayapuri.
While addressing the public gathering of JJ Clusters, he said the Congress will make sure that residents of JJ Clusters will be given flats at the same place at the rate of Re 1. “If two families are living in one Jhuggi Jhopdi, then both would get separate flats,” Maken said.
Addressing Congress workers, traders and supporters in Malviya Nagar Assembly, he said that that UPA Government would protect the small and medium traders/entrepreneurs from vagaries of sealing as it had done before in 2006.
He reminded that he as Union Urban Development Minister had made 170 amendments to the Delhi Master Plan to protect commercial establishments and small, medium sized traders.
He also said the Congress Government will within one month of its coming to power, enact legislation or make further amendments to Master Plan to stop the sealing being carried out and protect business. Taking a dig at the current Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri, Maken said that Puri should have had the guts to fight from New Delhi instead of running away to contest to Amritsar.
