3rd list brings little relief to aspirants

Delhi University’s third cut-off list for admission to the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) witnesses the most sought-after courses in prominent colleges remaining above 90 per cent mark with a mere drop of 0.25 to one per cent against the marks in the second cut-off list.

Courses like Economics and Commerce, in most Delhi University colleges dropped merely by a fraction of a per cent, with Ramjas College topping the list by reducing 0.75 per cent.

But, in other colleges, the drop is not more than 0.25 per cent and the cut-off still averages between 96-97 per cent. Shri Ram College for Commerce (SRCC) has closed admissions for undergraduate programmes in Commerce and Economics for general as well as other backward classes (OBC) categories.

“The seats have been filled for these two courses for both general and other backward classes (OBC), so there would be no cut-off list after this one,” said SRCC Principal PC Jain.

For few courses in some colleges, there was no change in the marks in the third cut-off list. Such programmes include History (Hons) at Ramjas College and Botany (Hons) at Hindu College. This year, admissions to undergraduate programmes in some colleges closed earlier than expected, although the cut-off percentage was not pegged low.

“We were very cautious while declaring the cut-off marks. We did not want an overflow of students by declaring lower cut-offs,” said Sri Venkateswara College Principal P Hemalatha Reddy. Ram lal Anand College and Janki Devi Memorial College are among those that have closed admissions for Humanities courses for general category candidates.

Hindu College has not come up with a third cut-off list for Mathematics, Philosophy, Sanskrit and Sociology. For Hans Raj College's BTech programme in Computer Science, the cut-off remains fixed at 99 per cent for students with non-science background.

The fourth cut-off list in DU is expected to be released on July 8.
