President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the 36th India International Trade Fair, 2016. The theme of this year's 14-day fair is 'Digital India', the significance of which is to eradicate poverty in India through digital technologies and e-governance.

Addressing the gathering in the inaugural function at Delhi Pavilion, Sisodia said, "The decision to curb black money was supposed to benefit the common masses but the situation seems to be just opposite of what was being promised by the ruling Government."

He added, "If today the farmers of this country are in danger, it's obvious, the country is going to face its worst days in coming six months."

He alleged that due to demonetisation, there has been a significant dip in tax collection and the Government was not getting sufficient revenue. "We are following a mere custom to participate in the trade fair, when the common people are striving to fight hunger due to liquidity crisis in the market," said Sisodia.

He added, how the situation has raised alarmingly, creating massive problem for the common people, while allowing some goons to convert their black money into white.

Seven thousand firms from India and overseas will participate. The first five days of the fair will be dedicated to business visitors of which South Korea is the partner country and Belarus, the focus country. However this time the traders are under severe cash crunch due to demonetisation.

Meanwhile, Anticipating thousands of visitors thronging Trade Fair 2016 at Pragati Maidan, the Delhi Police have put into place a detailed security apparatus to ensure that nothing untoward happens during the 14 days' period. Round the clock security has been mounted in and around Pragati Maidan with Sandbag morchas at multiple places and constant surveillance through CCTV cameras.
